South Carolina vs. Iowa Preview

South Carolina has only lost three games since 2021 and is a 6.5-point favorite over Iowa in their finals matchup. They easily beat Presbyterian and North Carolina in the first two rounds. Then, they took a four-point victory against Indiana in the round of 16. The Gamecocks advanced to the semifinals by defeating Oregon 70-58 in the quarterfinals. They followed that with a 78-59 win over NC State on Friday to reach the championship game.

Senior center Kamilla Cardoso is the key player for South Carolina, averaging 14.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game. The Gamecocks are on a mission. They’re just one win away from becoming the tenth undefeated team to win the championship. They’re also just one away from being the first to do it since UConn in 2016.

Iowa rallied in the second half to beat UConn 71-69 in the semifinals. The Hawkeyes won the Big Ten title for the third consecutive year before defeating Holy Cross and West Virginia in the opening two rounds. They beat defending Colorado in the round of 16 before handing defending national champion LSU a 21-point defeat in the quarterfinals.

Caitlin Clark scored 21 points after being shut down by the Huskies in the first half on Friday. The Women’s College Basketball Player of the Year performance against LSU showed why she’s the top player in the country. She scored 41 points, including nine three-pointers, and dished out 12 assists. Clark leads the nation in scoring with 31.7 points per game. She’s also first in assists with 9.0 per game.
