Comparing NC Online Sports Betting To Virginia’s Industry

Legalized NC online sports betting is coming!

After months of consideration, North Carolina finally legalized online sports betting with the passage of House Bill 347. The bill was signed on June 14, 2023, by Gov. Roy Cooper, setting the stage for North Carolina online sports betting. Now, how is that different from their neighboring state in Virginia?

Comparing NC and VA online sports betting

Lawmakers legalized sports betting in the Old Dominion State on April 22, 2020. Virginia continues to flourish with 17 sportsbooks available for users to enjoy. They are expected to welcome several more of the best sports betting sites in the U.S. at the start of 2024.

However, one detail in the legislation gives college sports bettors headaches. Those in the Commonwealth cannot wager on in-state college athletic teams. This means fans of the Virginia Cavaliers and Virginia Tech Hokies must go to another state to support those teams.

NC online sports betting, however, has no such wrinkles. Don’t be surprised to see Virginians close to the North Carolina border come south to bet on their favorite college football and college basketball teams.

Expected North Carolina Sportsbooks

While careful consideration is still taking place, below are some of the legal online sports betting options that are expected to be available to North Carolina bettors for the early 2024 launch.

➡️ BetMGM Sportsbook NC
➡️ Caesars Sportsbook NC
➡️ DraftKings Sportsbook NC
➡️ FanDuel Sportsbook NC
➡️ Fanatics Sportsbook NC

Each of these outlets will likely offer North Carolina sports betting promos upon launch. Stay tuned for the latest news and updates as the to-be-determined launch date gets closer.
