It’s official: North Carolina online sports betting will go live on Monday, March 11.
The date was unanimously approved Wednesday by the North Carolina Lottery Commission. On that day, residents of North Carolina will be able to access some of the country’s best online sportsbooks.
More on the upcoming NC online sports betting launch
We knew North Carolina’s online sports betting industry must launch by June 14, 2024. That’s the one-year anniversary of when Gov. Roy Cooper signed HB 347, which legalized online sports betting in the Tar Heel State.
Gov. Cooper had mentioned he hoped for an online launch prior to the 2024 NCAA basketball tournament. That wasn’t a certainty. NC online sports betting could have legally launched as early as Jan. 8, and bettors in the state were frustrated to hear they would not be able to partake in Super Bowl 58 betting.
However, with the March 11 launch date, Gov. Cooper’s goal has been met. NCAA basketball tournament betting tips off with the First Four the following week, which should give the industry a flying start.
Signups begin March 1
North Carolinians will be able to register for online sports betting accounts at the beginning of the month. While they won’t be able to wager for another 10 days, they can fund those accounts with initial deposits.
Some of the sportsbooks we expect to launch in the state include the ones below:
Several more licenses are still up for grabs. We should know more about which sportsbooks will obtain them in the weeks before launch. When they’re available to download in North Carolina on March 1, expect a wide variety of North Carolina sports betting promos for new customers to access.
Each NC sportsbook must partner with a local professional sports team, venue, or league in order to do business in North Carolina. Some of these have been made public. Most recently, DraftKings and BetMGM partnered with NASCAR and Charlotte Motor Speedway.
