Underdog, Sedgefield Country Club Team Up For NC Online Sports Betting

Underdog Sports became the latest North Carolina online sports betting operator to announce a required partnership this week.

The company has partnered with Sedgefield Country Club ahead of the industry’s launch. That launch is scheduled for Monday, March 11.

More on the Underdog/Sedgefield partnership

In order to do business in North Carolina, each online sportsbook must partner with an in-state professional sports team, league, or venue. Formally, this partnership is through Sedgefield’s owner, McConnell Golf. The company owns and operates 16 properties across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee.

“Underdog is thrilled to launch our betting games in North Carolina in partnership with McConnell Golf,” said Jeremy Levine, founder and co-CEO of Underdog Sports, in a press release sent out Tuesday afternoon. “We’ve spent the last four years building our own technology so we can give sports fans in America new and different ways to enjoy the sports they love. We’re excited to be able to offer that to North Carolinians and look forward to evolving the experience with them.”

Underdog is best known for its fantasy games, but turned heads by being one of the first seven operators to submit completed North Carolina online sports betting license applications in December. This allows Underdog the ability to be available to North Carolina bettors when apps become available for downloading at the beginning of March.

Sedgefield Country Club, meanwhile, is located in Greensboro. It hosts the PGA Tour’s annual Wyndham Championship event, which qualifies it for this type of partnership with a potential North Carolina sports betting operator.

Other North Carolina online sports betting partnerships

Several NC online sportsbooks have finalized agreements ahead of the industry opening its virtual doors in mid-March. Below is a list of other partnerships between operators and in-state organizations:

When the industry goes live, it will likely do so with a wide array of North Carolina sports betting promos. Stay tuned to Winners and Whiners for more news and updates on the upcoming launch!
