I like the hire, and I think the Bruins future looks bright, but Week 1 on the road against a team with a better quarterback and a defense that was far superior a year ago, I think the Bruins are the clear underdog.

The Rebels are the team with all the hype, and I hear fans glowing about head coach Dan Mullen. The coach on the other side has the more impressive resume, at least in recent seasons. Charles Huff won a conference championship with Marshall, then took over a Southern Miss team coming off a 1-11 season, and won seven of nine games to start last season. With 13 defensive players coming with him from Southern Miss, Huff's defense should be in good shape. I am not sold on the Rebels quarterback situation with Jackson Arnold and Alex Orgi. We will put this on our wait list, hope the line gets bet up to -7 and take the points when it does.

If you can still get a -6.5, grab it now because I don't expect that number to be available as we get close to kickoff. While the hire of Bobby Petrino could be impactful for the Tar Heels offense, it may take some time. The Horned Frogs have a new QB, and given he played at Harvard last year, there will be doubters. I expect to see a successful transition as he will be playing behind one of the best offensive lines in the BIG12, surrounded by returning talent at WR and RB. Davis Warren has more of an uphill battle in my opinion.

I think back to Timmy Chang's first game as head coach of the Rainbow Warriors. I had a bet against them when they hosted Vanderbilt in their season opener. I said they hired their former quarterback and 2 x Hawaii Bowl MVP because nobody else would take the job. The program was a complete dumpster fire, and they ended up getting throttled 63-10 in a loss to the Commodores.
Well in the three years since, Chang has brought this team back to consecutive bowl games, and a 9-win season in 2025. Micah Alejado absolutely balled out in the bowl win in 2024, but he injured his foot in Week Zero last year and was limited by that injury for most of the season.
He still threw for over 3000 yards and 24 TDs, and Hawaii was 7-1 at home. With Boise State, Fresno State and San Diego State now in the PAC12, there won't be too many games on the schedule that this team can't win.
