| NBA | (559) Dallas Mavericks at (560) Utah Jazz: Spread | 9:10pm EST - Jan 8/2026 |
The PLAY: Dallas Mavericks -6.5 (-110)
Absolutely atrocious spot here for Utah, who returns home after a four-game road trip that ended with an overtime loss at Oklahoma City last night. That was a game where the Jazz trailed by 20, fought back to take an 8-point lead with just over five minutes left in regulation, and still lost. I know they've been a much better team at home, but this will be a tough spot to get "off the mat."
I realize laying more than two possessions, on the road, with a Mavericks team that has failed to cover the spread in seven of its last nine games is not something you'd normally expect from me. But Cooper Flagg scored a career-high 42 points in the previous matchup with Utah. Dallas has won each its last two games straight up.
This is just a terrible spot for Utah and we're now able to get a better number on Dallas than when I broke the game down on the Morning Wager (click video below) ...

After spending the previous decade at Covers Experts, Bryan Power has wasted little time establishing himself. A consistent winner since first emerging on the scene back in 2011, Power didn't have a single losing calendar year in his first decade as a pro handicapper! In April & May of this year (2022), he went on an amazing 154-99-2 (+$41,322) with all plays!
Power handicaps football (both NFL and college), basketball (NBA and college), MLB, Soccer (most major European leagues), and the UFC. He uses a personal set of power ratings, combined with situational handicapping, to make his selections. Multiple bets per day across multiple sports are the norm.
