The PLAY: Chicago Cubs -110 Listed Pitchers Must Start
The Cubs should be a much larger ML favorite here, in my opinion. The Phillies are coming off their worst homestand since 2009 (went 2-7 overall) and it ended with five consecutive losses where they were outscored 37-9. That includes losing two of three to these same Cubs. The Phillies now have the worst run differential in all of baseball (-38) after getting swept over the weekend by the Braves.
On top of all the above, the Phillies didn't arrive in the Windy City until 1 AM this morning after losing 4-2 on Sunday Night Baseball. Teams having to travel after playing on Sunday Night Baseball are typically at a disadvantage in Monday series openers. This Phillies' lineup is already second to last in the National League when it comes to runs scored on the road (averaging just 3.17 per game). Don't think starter Aaron Nola (6.01 ERA last year) is going to be able to stop the bleeding. He lasted just five innings in last week's start against the Cubs, after allowing three runs on eight hits.
Meanwhile, the Cubs have won five in a row and just swept the Mets over the weekend by holding them to seven runs in three games. Even though I cashed a pair of Under bets in that series (Saturday & Sunday), the Cubs' offense has started to come alive with 53 runs scored over the L7 games. They scored 10+ runs in each of the two wins over the Phillies last week. Monday's starting pitcher Colin Rea has been solid in his four appearances this season, two of them coming in bulk relief. He allowed just three runs on four hits in 6 IP vs the Phillies last week.
