| MLB | (973) Cleveland Guardians at (974) Philadelphia Phillies: F5 Spread | 6:40pm EDT - May 22/2026 |
The PLAY: F5 Philadelphia Phillies -0.5 (-115) Gavin Williams (RHP), Cristopher Sanchez (LHP) Must Start
Looking at the respective won-loss records, you wouldn't think the Phillies (25-25) would be this big of a favorite against Cleveland (30-22). But the Phils are at home and playing with a rest advantage. They had Thursday off while the Guardians were wrapping up a four-game sweep in Detroit yesterday afternoon. Also worth noting that Philly is 16-6 since Don Mattingly took over as manager. They've won six of their last seven series as well.
The Guardians' season-high win streak is now at seven in a row. But the Phillies have Cristopher Sanchez on the mound tonight. He should be the difference-maker. If the Phils are to justify this full-game price tag, it will be on the arm of Sanchez. Therefore, I'd recommend laying the -0.5 (run line) in the first five (innings) with the home team.
Cleveland's scoring and on-base percentage are among the best in baseball since April 29th. However, they tailed off the L3 games with just 4, 3 and 3 runs scored. (One of those three games even went to extra innings). With Sanchez, you're talking about a guy that hasn't allowed a single run over his last three starts with a 30-1 KW ratio in 24 IP! Certainly, he has the edge over Guardians' starter Gavin Williams, who has allowed five or more runs in three of his last five starts overall.
