The PLAY: Boston Red Sox -124 Max Scherzer (RHP), Jake Bennett (LHP) Must Start
Max Scherzer has been absolutely atrocious this season. Realistically, he no longer belongs in a major league rotation. I faded him in his last start as he returned from the IL and allowed five runs in 3 1/3 innings at Philadelphia. The Blue Jays went on to lose that game 7-4. The team is 0-5 the last five times Scherzer has taken the mound. He's posted a 13.50 ERA in that stretch.
So I'd recommend backing the Red Sox tonight. I know they don't score a ton at home and were 1 for 12 with RISP last night (13 runners stranded). But the Blue Jays are 27th in scoring on the road. Boston also has the better bullpen. Rookie Jake Bennett starts for the fourth time and while the jury is still out on him, it's not like he'll be any worse than Scherzer.
