The PLAY: Total Over 8.0 (-112) Action
This has been an "Over series" so far with 10 and 18 total runs scored the first two games. The Phillies did all the heavy lifting yesterday in a 15-3 win. Kyle Schwarber hit three home runs, including two in one inning, while Bryce Harper hit for the cycle. Per MLB.com, it was just the second time in MLB history where teammates had a 3-run HR game and a cycle in the same game!
As much as I dislike betting on a lineup immediately following its season-high output in runs scored, the Phillies at home are clearly a different animal than on the road. Away from Citizens Bank Park, they rank LAST in all of MLB in runs scored and wRC+. But here a home, they are top 10 in both categories. The scoring increase is more than a full run per game. I'm not asking for another 15 runs tonight. Five or six will probably do.
And that's an attainable number here for the Phillies, who will be facing the awful David Peterson tonight. Peterson has struggled both in the traditional starting role and as a bulk reliever (following an opener) this season. Five of the last six traditional starts have seen him allow at least four runs. The Mets' bullpen is cooked with seven different relievers used the L2 days. So, for this game to go Over the total, all we need from the Mets are a few runs. Even against Zack Wheeler, that's likely. Note Wheeler's 3.38 SIERA as a sign of potential regression.
